If you are an avid fisherman like we are, then not having a boat won’t stop you from fishing. We are no strangers to off-shore fishing, but fishing in Montreal was a definite first for us. We have a few friends who live in Montreal, so it was a great excuse to pop-up for a quick visit. Surprisingly to a general believe that one needs to go outside of the city to fish, we found a few good spots to cast without needing to drive out to the outskirts of Montreal. If you forgot your fishing gear, or simply don’t have it, don’t worry! A quick stop by Canadian Tire can solve your equipment issues. And while you are there, make sure you take care of your fishing permit for the day.
You might ask what can you catch in Montreal? Some of the local species you will come across are perch, bass, pike, and walleye. So we started off from Park Cité du Havre and then moved on to the Ile Sainte-Helene. Access to the shore was not all that easy, but was worth explorign for sure. We might attempt another spot in the future. In fact if you are looking for more spots, city of Montreal offers an interactive map indicating common spots for fishing. I think next time we will probably start off with Parc-nature du Cap-Saint-Jacques, just at the entry point of Montreal.
For more information on the fishing locations please visit the official site for the city of Montreal. Meanwhile as the winter is preparing for its come back, we are planning a few ice fishing outfitters in the Montreal area.
So Cheers and Fish On!
