Program of children sponsorship has been around since 1936, but here is something not everybody has come across… sturgeon sponsorship. Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society has developed a program where you can adopt a sturgeon. This interactive program enables adoptive parents to track their fish, learn more about the native habitat and information pertaining to its survival and history. Adoptive parents receive information regarding their tagging, location the fish was sampled, and updates on recaptures.
Targeted at fishing enthusiasts and conservationists, this is a program that allows educate the public and develop new projects to strengthen local ecosystem, and enable a whole new way of looking on donation. If you are interested in donation, check the program home page.
Fraser Sturgeon Conservation Society is not the only non-profit who offers such program. In 2005 Lake Nipissing Stewardship Council (LNSC) has launched the same initiative. Its pretty amazing to see great minds initiating incredible program such as this, that helps to educate the public and think of adoption in a whole different way!
